Job change
Being pregnant for the first time is such a learning experience for yourself and your spouse/partner. You learn to focus on your body in a more intricate way. You start thinking about not only nourishing your body for your health but also for your baby’s health. Along with taking your health into account, you start thinking about what decisions need to be made before the baby arrives. This includes housing, careers, cars, and so many other things.
At this point in my pregnancy, I was working in a dental office 40 minutes away from our house. I was so sick ALL the time. I would have to pull over on my way to and from work just to throw up on the side of the road. Moring sickness was ALL DAY sickness for me, it was awful. Looking back, I probably spent just as much time physically working as I did throwing up in the bathroom at work. On top of not feeling well, the job I was doing was stressful. I would tell my husband all the time that I was going to put in my two weeks’ notice, but I never could bring myself to do it. What finally brought me to put in my two weeks was when my 40-minute drive to work turned into an hour and 10-minute drive to work due to road construction. I was not going to continue to be sick along the HWY with the chance of being stuck in traffic and having to roll down the window. So, I did what was the best decision I could have made. I put in my two weeks’ notice with no idea what I was going to do for a job.
I submitted resumes to 10+ companies in our little town. I hadn’t heard back from any of them for a couple weeks and then one day I got a call from the bank that I applied to and that I currently bank with. They wanted me to come in for an interview! I applied to be the receptionist. I was so excited but so nervous as well because who wants to hire someone who is going to be going on maternity leave in 6 months? We scheduled the interview for the next day, and little did I know what was going to occur the next day.
I woke up bright and early to start getting ready for this interview. My husband was, at the time, working with a construction crew so he left for work at 6am. I was home alone, and it was close to 8am so I decided to get in the shower. As I was showering a wave of sickness came over me. It hit me hard, so hard that I started getting dizzy. I turned the water off, got out of the shower, started throwing up in the toilet, and after a few minutes of throwing up I sat against the tub wrapped in a towel and passed out. I have no idea how long I was there for. When I came to, I was shaking and started throwing up again. My phone was sitting on the counter in the bathroom, so I told Siri to call my husband. He answered and in a shaky voice I told him he needed to come home because I had just passed out and I could not stop throwing up.
Between the time that I had called him and the time he made it home I had passed out again on the bathroom floor. He came into the bathroom asked me a bunch of questions like “have you ate this morning”, “how much have you thrown up”, “did you hit your head”. He then brough me clothes and he rushed me to the hospital.
Once we got to the hospital, I had my husband call the bank and tell them what was going on and that I wouldn’t be able to do the interview. LUCKILY, they understood and were willing to reschedule it! Long story short, I did end up getting hired at the bank but for marketing, which is what my degree is in.
I ended up having multiple labs ran, and they were able to check on baby to assure me that baby was doing fine. They were able to see that I was extremely dehydrated, due to all the throwing up I had been doing. So, they prescribed me some Zofran. Little did we know that this episode would only be the first of many during this pregnancy.
