Recent Discoveries
We have made many new discoveries the last couple of weeks in the Brown house. These discoveries consist of new milestones, shadows, sprinklers, and much more. You would think all these items sound fun right…wrong.
My 2-year-old has discovered shadows. He loves them during the day but is terrified of them at night. At first it would take close to 2 hours to get him to sleep. We would point out the shadows and give them funny names, we would wave to them and show him that they are okay. As soon as we left the room he would scream. We decided to put a privacy tent over his bed. Keep in mind this privacy tent is meant for a twin sized bed and he sleeps in a toddler bed. He basically has a miniature man cave in his room right now! We were able to fit his bed, a bookshelf, a little rug, and a giant teddy bear in there so that way he had his own safe area. We kept one side open for air flow and this seemed to do the trick! For the next 3 nights he was asleep within 5 minutes of us putting him down.
The next discovery…. now my 2-year-old has figured out he can open the door between his room and his sibling’s room. Not only can he open the door, but he also knows how to open the baby gates that we have between the doors put in place for this exact scenario. So, what does he do now when we put him down and he doesn’t want to be in his room, he goes and wakes up his sister and brother then walks through the kitchen and back to us in the living room. In case you are wondering, as of right now 10:15pm tonight, he is still awake laying next to me on the couch as I write this. Its fine LOL this too shall pass…right? #sendcoffee
The twins have recently been introduced to the sprinkler! For those of you who know the twins personally, you can only imagine how this went. For those of you who only know them through blog posts, the twins are not fans of water. They have never enjoyed bath time and really do not like the kid pool we have. My oldest, however, LIVES for water and since it has been getting warmer, we have been spending more time outside. We turned the sprinkler on for my oldest and he was running through it, soaked within seconds just having the time of his life. The twins saw how much fun he was having and decided to walk over there and give it a try. Kinzley didn’t mind the water hitting her from a distance but refused to get close enough to truly experience the sprinkler. Koehn on the other hand ran at the sprinkler full force and instantly regretted his decision. He got a direct hit to the face and stomach. The result was a tearful, screaming little boy running straight back to us never to look in the direction of the sprinkler for the rest of the day.
On a positive note, the twins have discovered the joys of dancing! I have always danced with the kids while holding them but within the last couple weeks they have started wiggling their booties, swaying back and forth, and trying to jump to the music. My oldest has been a dancer since the moment he could walk. The number of dance parties we have now is insane. Our new morning routine consists of playing one upbeat/joyful song after breakfast before the sitter arrives to start the day off on a positive. Sometimes the kids aren’t awake enough to fully enjoy it so we will still sway with them but other mornings they are all jumping and laughing, living for the 3-minute dance party in the kitchen.
With it only being the beginning of summer, I’m sure this is just the beginning of many more discoveries for the season. I cannot wait to see what all they get into and figure out within the next couple of months.
